Despite a 10 % slump in volumes compared to the previous year, we were able to close 2020 in the black thanks to efficient countermeasures and government support. We brought over 460,000 trains to their destinations last year, which amounts to 1,260 trains a day.
With a modal share of 28.2 % of the total freight traffic in Austria, we are top of the league in Europe. Once again, we’ve proved that rail freight transport has a key role to play – both for the climate and for delivering supplies of critical and systemic importance.

Over 700 trains between Asia and Europe
In 2020, the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group transported around 70,000 TEU on the New Silk Road. That’s more freight than ever before. It equates to almost twice as much as the previous year. We’ve a new record!

Our new TransFER Budapest–Brno
We’re expanding our intermodal network to include the possibility of combining our new TransFER Budapest–Brno with increased frequency for our existing TransFER Budapest–Köseköy.

Cooperation with Marcegaglia to be extended
Our successful partnership with the industrial company Marcegaglia is being extended this year too to include one more train per week. Our logistics centre in San Stino di Livenza serves as a key hub for all of Italy.

A peek at the Terminal BILK
The end of our trains doesn’t usually mean the end of the line for the goods we’re transporting. At our terminals, we pull out all the stops to make sure the move from rail to road goes smoothly.

Our Terminals in Slovakia
We operate four container terminals in Slovakia: in Bratislava, Košice, Ružomberok and Žilina.
Our terminals’ prime geographic locations make them key logistical hubs.
